Basketball Recap: Atchison County Gets the Win

Atchison County won the last time they faced Jackson Heights and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Atchison County Tigers walked away with a 59-46 win over the Jackson Heights Cobras.

Atchison County had a senior duo take command as Kinzee Bauerle went 11-for-23 on her way to 32 points and seven rebounds and Kori Wagner posted 11 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Bauerle has scored at least a third of Atchison County's points. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Scholz, who scored seven points and seven boards.

Atchison County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Jackson Heights had strong showings from Brynn Shupe, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 19 points and six rebounds, and Taylor Bosley, who had 11 points and seven boards. What's more, Bosley posted four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Sabrina Streeter also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Atchison County's record is now 6-10. As for Jackson Heights, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Atchison County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-54 victory against Pleasant Ridge on the 14th. As for Jackson Heights, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-29 loss against Jefferson County North on the 13th.
