Basketball Recap: San Marcos Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

San Marcos saw some tournament action on Friday. They walked away with a 76-65 victory over the McNeil Mavericks. Given the Rattlers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Mavericks are ranked 771st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

San Marcos is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.6 points per game. As for McNeil, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

San Marcos and Akins will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for McNeil, they will square off against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
