Basketball Recap: Samaria Brown Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

Bernalillo won against Rio Grande last Monday with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Bernalillo Spartans skirted past the Cibola Cougars 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since November 30, 2024.

Bernalillo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Samaria Brown out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Trinity Calabaza, who posted 11 points in addition to eight blocks and six boards.

Bernalillo pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Cibola, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cibola, they will head out to square off against Albuquerque at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
