Baseball Game Preview: Laguna Beach Breakers vs. Brea Olinda Wildcats

The Laguna Beach Breakers will be taking part in a tournament against the Brea Olinda Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are still undefeated (Laguna Beach has four wins , while Brea Olinda has three).

While Laguna Beach didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Esperanza on Monday as Laguna Beach made off with a 10-1 victory. With that win, the Breakers brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Branson Wade tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024.

At the plate, Lucien Reed was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Becker Sybirski, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Laguna Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Brea Olinda never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Godinez Fundamental 7-0.

Laguna Beach pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs over those games. As for Brea Olinda, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Laguna Beach came out on top in a nail-biter against Brea Olinda in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, sneaking past 5-4. Does Laguna Beach have another victory up their sleeve, or will Brea Olinda turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
