Softball Recap: Whetstone Takes a Loss

If Whetstone was feeling good fresh off their 14-2 takedown of East on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Whetstone fell just short of the Hamilton Township Rangers by a score of 7-6 on Saturday. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rangers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Jillian Nelson spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Bair was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-5. Ilona Buterbaugh was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Whetstone's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Hamilton Township, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Whetstone is taking a road trip to challenge Groveport-Madison at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hamilton Township, they will host Bloom-Carroll at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. This will be Hamilton Township's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
