Softball Recap: DeForest Takes a Loss

DeForest extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-7 in the process. They came up short against the Watertown Goslings, falling 13-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Norskies of the 10-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Watertown, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1. The result was nothing new for the Goslings, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Watertown's part, Cali Craig made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Craig has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Novotny, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Cassidy Peplinski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. DeForest is set to take on their familiar foe Waunakee at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Watertown will challenge rival Milton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
