Chandler Prep has won 11 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Anthem Prep has won 11 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Titans will welcome the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Chandler Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Chandler Prep proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Veritas Prep, sneaking past 4-2. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won five in a row.
Colman Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emet Yates, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Anthem Prep got the win against Valley Lutheran on Saturday by a conclusive 26-3. Considering the Eagles have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Chandler Prep, Anthem Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaxon MacHugh. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. MacHugh was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Anthem Prep's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Aidan Wherley was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Anthem Prep is undefeated when Wherley posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Ricky Orta was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Anthem Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Anthem Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chandler Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chandler Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Anthem Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chandler Prep took their win against Anthem Prep when the teams last played back in March of 2016 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
