Basketball Game Preview: Webster Groves Statesmen vs. Chaminade Red Devils

Having just played yesterday, the Webster Groves Statesmen will get right back to it and host the Chaminade Red Devils at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Webster Groves knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Chaminade likes a good challenge.

Webster Groves is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Eureka: they outscored them in every quarter. Webster Groves strolled past Eureka with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 58-40. Given the Statesmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Wildcats are ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chaminade, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 71-52 victory over St. Louis University on Thursday. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Junior Bills recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Chaminade's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points over those games. As for Webster Groves, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Webster Groves suffered a grim 57-36 defeat to Chaminade in their previous meeting back in January of 2021. Can Webster Groves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
