League recap: Freeman extends winning streak with victory over Lourdes Central Catholic

D1 District 1 (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in D1 District 1 (8 Man) this week, Freeman beat Lourdes Central Catholic 32-28. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Falcons.

Johnson-Brock lost to Exeter-Milligan 76-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Knights' dynamic duo of Thomas Gress and Aaron Miller proved to be unstoppable against Freeman, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gress threw for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns and Miller had 118 yards receiving. Jameson Defreece helped Lourdes Central Catholic's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 21 yards.

Isaac Frerichs provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Theron Troxel's team defeated Lourdes Central Catholic. He completed 12 passes for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 65 yards. Frerichs' favorite target this week was Derek Veerhusen, who caught 5 passes for 71 yards.

The Falcons' Frerichs and Veerhusen have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Frerichs has thrown for 560 yards this season, while Veerhusen, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 14 catches for 258 yards. Pawnee City's Scott Borcher leads the league in rushing yards with 564.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Andy Fedoris' team takes on the Timberwolves. As it stands, the Knights are in fourth, while Exeter-Milligan is in second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lourdes Central Catholic takes on Dean Filipi's team. The Knights have allowed 96 points this season, while the Timberwolves have given up 50. Lourdes Central Catholic allowed 32 points last week as it fell to Freeman.

The Falcons and the Knights played the most contested game in D1 District 1 (8 Man) this week, with the Falcons eventually emerging with a 32-28 victory. Frerichs ran for 65 yards in the win.
