Basketball Recap: Rising Sun Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jaylen Peelman and Vicky Erickson

Rising Sun lost against Trinity Lutheran back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rising Sun Shiners lost to the Trinity Lutheran Cougars at home by a 56-39 margin. While losing is never fun, the Shiners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while the Cougars are ranked 122nd).

Rising Sun's loss came despite strong showings from Vicky Erickson and Jaylen Peelman. Erickson went 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points and six rebounds, while Peelman posted ten points and six rebounds.

Trinity Lutheran found their leader in sophomore Marley Warren, who put up 19 points. Warren's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Laura Roeder was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Rising Sun and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Trinity Lutheran, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Rising Sun will challenge Oldenburg Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oldenburg Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Rising Sun surely won't give up without a fight. As for Trinity Lutheran, they will square off against South Ripley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity Lutheran is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.
