Softball Recap: Mathis Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mathis waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Aransas Pass Panthers as they made off with a 17-2 victory. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Alyssa Herrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Mathis got a massive performance out of Angelina Hernandez, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez a new career-high in triples (two). Another player making a difference was Marivel Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Mathis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Mathis' record is now 9-6-1. As for Aransas Pass, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-10-1.

Looking ahead, Mathis will host Taft at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mathis will need to watch out since Taft has now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Aransas Pass, they will head out on the road to square off against West Oso at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Aransas Pass is facing West Oso at the right time seeing as West Oso is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
