Millbrook has gone 8-2 against Broughton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Millbrook Wildcats will welcome the Broughton Capitals at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Millbrook sitting on six straight victories and Broughton on four.
Millbrook's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Apex hitters got past them. Millbrook blew past Apex 17-10 on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Conner Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Heath, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jack Strom, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Millbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Broughton gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Knightdale 12-11. With that win, the Capitals brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Broughton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Hawkins, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Odniel Perez was another, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Millbrook's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.33 in the others. As for Broughton, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Millbrook has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Broughton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Millbrook skirted past Broughton 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will Millbrook repeat their success, or does Broughton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
