Baseball Recap: Clemente Wins Going Away Against Mather

Clemente had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Mather on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Rangers 10-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Paul Gandara made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Clemente is undefeated when Gandara posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Semaj Beecham was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Clemente: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Johan Anez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Clemente was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Clemente back to even at 7-7. As for Mather, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clemente will head out to challenge Holy Trinity at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mather, they will venture away from home to face off against Steinmetz College Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
