Basketball Recap: Coastal Christian Comes Up Short

Coastal Christian lost against John Paul II Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Coastal Christian Centurions took a blow against the John Paul II Catholic Saints, falling 60-20. While losing is never fun, the Centurions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 391st, while the Saints are ranked 94th).

John Paul II Catholic found their leader in sophomore Aaliyah Hinnant, who went 7 of 11 en route to 18 points. Hinnant has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ariana Atkinson, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points.

Coastal Christian now has a losing record at 6-7. As for John Paul II Catholic, their victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1.

When Coastal Christian and John Paul II Catholic next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Coastal Christian will square off against Arendell Parrott Academy and their three-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, John Paul II Catholic will try to stop Cape Fear Academy's three-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
