Baseball Game Preview: Gridley Bulldogs vs. Orland Trojans

For the second straight game, Gridley will face off against Orland. The Bulldogs will square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Gridley is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Gridley nor Orland made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Trojans 3-2.

Tanner Abbott made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Luis Murillo was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Gridley pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Orland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gridley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Orland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
