Basketball Recap: La Vernia Piles Up the Points Against Uvalde

It's playoff time, and La Vernia had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) to the tune of 61-26 on Monday. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Lacey Matney, who went 9-for-18 en route to 20 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last eight games she's played. Alana Afflerbach was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

The victory made it two in a row for La Vernia and bumps their season record up to 21-10. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points over those games. As for Uvalde, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-18.

La Vernia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-35 loss against Fredericksburg on the 13th. Uvalde does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
