Baseball Recap: Devine Warhorses / Arabians vs. Uvalde Coyotes
Devine had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 13-9 to make it four. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Uvalde Coyotes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 back in March.
Christian Beaver made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Karter Brown was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Uvalde, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.
On Uvalde's side, Derek De La Cruz was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. De La Cruz has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Jared Balbuena and Ryan Zamora did most of the damage at the plate: Balbuena got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Zamora went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Balbuena has posted since back in February.
