Northwest Crossroads Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Marco Castro Goes Supernova in Kankakee Valley Victory

Kankakee Valley's five-game losing streak is now nothing but a memory thanks in part to Marco Castro. Castro did his part (and then some), rushing for 213 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 32 receiving yards for the 'W'. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 105 rushing yards dating back to last season.

If history really does repeat itself, Castro might just drop another big game when he faces off against Munster on Friday. When Castro last faced the Mustangs back in October of 2023, he rushed for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry.

Big Game from Shearer As Hobart Fell 61-58

Hobart had to settle for second on Friday, but Willy Shearer sure wasn't going down easily. Shearer turned in nothing short of a gem, rushing for 79 yards and three touchdowns. He has become a key player for Hobart: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Hammond Morton's probably not too fond of Shearer given he always seems to get the better of them. When Shearer last faced the Governors back in October of 2023, he rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns.

Brody Kalwinski's Big Game Leads Lowell over Munster

Lowell found a leader in Brody Kalwinski as the team took down Munster on Friday. Nobody could stop Kalwinski as he rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 123 yards and a touchdown on only seven passes.

Munster had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Kalwinski it was a similar story. When Kalwinski last faced the Mustangs back in October of 2023, he rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 39 yards and a touchdown.

A Season-Best Effort from Diego Arroyo Leads Kankakee Valley over Highland

Diego Arroyo produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Kankakee Valley to the win on Friday. Arroyo rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 127 yards and a touchdown on only ten passes.

Arroyo must have Highland's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. When Arroyo last faced the Trojans back in October of 2023, he threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes.

Colton Scott Delivers Best Effort of Season

On Friday, Lowell got the W thanks in part to Colton Scott playing the best football he has all season. Scott rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Munster had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Scott it was a similar story. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Scott saw the Mustangs), he rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
