Softball Recap: Caro Tigers vs. Sandusky Redskins
Caro had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it seven. They came up short against the Sandusky Redskins, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Monday.
As for Sandusky, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Considering they have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Sandusky's part, Karleigh Trowhill was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Trowhill was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Cora Arbaugh and Caroline Reinke did most of the damage at the plate: Arbaugh went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Reinke went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Reinke continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Webb, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caro will take on Mayville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sandusky, they will venture away from home to take on Marlette at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
