Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Branford

Branford took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Chiefland, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Branford Buccaneers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chiefland Indians 6-4. While the Buccaneers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Patrick Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Branford is undefeated when Williams posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Troy Roberts, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Jackson Skinner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

The win was the fourth in a row for Branford, bringing their record for this year to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chiefland, they dropped their record down to 5-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Branford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-4 victory against Fort White on the 10th. As for Chiefland, they have also already played their next contest, a 13-2 defeat against Lafayette on the 11th.
