Recap: Cranston East Thunderbolts vs. Mt. Hope Huskies
The Cranston East Thunderbolts entered their tilt with the Mt. Hope Huskies with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Cranston East came out on top against Mt. Hope by a score of 61-49 on Thursday. Cranston East pushed the score to 51-30 by the end of the third, a deficit Mt. Hope cut but never quite recovered from.
Cranston East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mya Jiminez led the charge by scoring 22 points. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Jiminez has scored at least a third of Cranston East's points. Jayna Gunderway was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Mt. Hope lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emily Moran, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Moran hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 16 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsa White, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Cranston East's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Mt. Hope, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Cranston East will head out on the road to take on Tiverton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cranston East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Mt. Hope, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mt. Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Mt. Hope is coming into the match with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Mt. Pleasant will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
