Basketball Recap: Mesa Verde Comes Up Short

If Mesa Verde was riding high fresh off their 63-20 takedown of Lindhurst last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mesa Verde Mavericks were dealt a 71-25 loss at the hands of the Woodland Christian Cardinals on Friday. The Mavericks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-11.

Woodland Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Romello Bruhn, who went 12 for 16 on his way to 28 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Bruhn's evening made it 47 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tanner Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Mesa Verde's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Woodland Christian, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mesa Verde will welcome San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Woodland Christian has already played their next match (against Vacaville Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
