Baseball Recap: Mercer County Comes Up Short

Mercer County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against East Jessamine on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by just one run.

Jackson Doughty was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Mercer County: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 13-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Devine, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Mercer County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-18 record this season. As for East Jessamine, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-14.
