Game recap: San Clemente leaps out of the gate in victory over La Costa Canyon

San Clemente (Calif.) jumped out to an early lead against La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.) and never looked back on the way to a 21-10 victory on Saturday.

The Tritons put up 14 points in the opening frame. San Clemente scored on a kick return touchdown by Christian Bailey, a touchdown, a Landon Cook touchdown run and a touchdown.

SC was up 14-0 at the half after taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by Bailey in the first quarter.

The Tritons saw their 14-point halftime lead fall to 11 entering the fourth.



The Mavericks' Jake Sesti was the standout player for his team. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.

San Clemente's standout player in the win was Cook. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.

La Costa Canyon's lone touchdown came on a 55-yard pass from Sesti to Jake Mann in the fourth quarter.

When the two teams played each other last season, SC came away with a 58-7 victory.

The defeat comes as a step back for La Costa Canyon, which notched a 10-9 victory over Poway in its previous outing. The loss snapped LCC's 2-game winning streak. With the win the Tritons extended their winning streak to four games.

La Costa Canyon (2-1) will play a non-conference game against Rancho Bernardo next week, while San Clemente (4-0) will take on Newport Harbor also in a non-conference game.
