Baseball Recap: Grayson County Comes Up Short

Auburn hit Grayson County with a four-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils fell 11-7 to the Eagles. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost seven in a row.

Makray Goad and Mav Goad stepped up to the plate in a big way. Makray went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Mav went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Mav is becoming a predictor of Grayson County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Adam Pennington, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Grayson County's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Auburn, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Coincidentally, Grayson County and Auburn will both be playing George Wythe the next time they take the field. The Blue Devils will head out to face the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
