Basketball Recap: Howard Valentin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf

Rhode Island School for the Deaf proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 21) and on Sunday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 33-30 win over the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf Lions. For Rhode Island School for the Deaf, this counts as revenge for the 46-37 victory Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

Rhode Island School for the Deaf's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Howard Valentin, who posted 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Valentin has scored at least a third of Rhode Island School for the Deaf's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Correy Oliveira, who scored ten points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Rhode Island School for the Deaf is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points over those games. Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Rhode Island School for the Deaf has already played their next contest, a 53-46 win against Grove on the 24th. Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
