Preview: Vernon Vikings vs. Passaic Valley Hornets
The Vernon Vikings will stay at home for another week and welcome the Passaic Valley Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on October 27th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
Last Friday, Vernon didn't have too much trouble with Sussex County Tech at home as they won 35-16.
Logan Pych continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Pych hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games.
Meanwhile, Passaic Valley can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-0 win over Millburn on the road. Given Passaic Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Millburn is ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vernon's victory was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points per game. As for Passaic Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Vernon came up short against Passaic Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2020, falling 20-12. Will Vernon have more luck at home instead of on the road?
