Softball Recap: Mahanoy Area Takes a Loss

Mahanoy Area had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-5 to make it five. They came up short against the Pine Grove Cardinals, falling 10-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Golden Bears were not able to get on the board.

As for Pine Grove, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Pine Grove's part, Jamie Dinger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Dinger has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Callee Leffler was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Payton Reiner also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Mahanoy Area didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-2 defeat against Pottsville on the 15th. As for Pine Grove, they have also already played their next game, a 5-0 win against Blue Mountain on the 16th.
