Preview: Holcomb Longhorns vs. Goodland Cowboys
Holcomb is 1-9 against the Cowboys since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Holcomb Longhorns will be playing at home against the Goodland Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Holcomb has not done well against the Eagles recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Everything went Holcomb's way against the Eagles as the Longhorns made off with a 51-25 win. Given Holcomb's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Eagles are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jera Kruleski was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Jones, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Goodland was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past the Cougars 54-24 at home.
Holcomb has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Goodland, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3.
Holcomb skirted past the Cowboys 54-52 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will Holcomb repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
