Preview: Brookfield Warriors vs. Garfield G-Men
Two dominant guards in Matteo Fortuna and Preston Gedeon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brookfield Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Garfield G-Men at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookfield is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Brookfield was beaten by Memorial 77-50. While losing is never fun, Brookfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while Memorial is ranked 306th).
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Garfield's strategy against Crestview on Tuesday. Garfield blew past Crestview 62-40. The victory was just what Garfield needed coming off of a 60-38 loss in their prior matchup.
Garfield relied on the efforts of Gedeon, who scored 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Eric Geddes, who scored 21 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Geddes has scored all season. Aidan Hill was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Brookfield has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Garfield, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.
Brookfield was able to grind out a solid win over Garfield in their previous meeting back in January, winning 64-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
