Morrill falls despite strong effort from Brooklyn Brown

Recap: Morrill Lions vs. Hay Springs Hawks

It was a good run, but the Morrill Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 51-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hay Springs. Morrill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hay Springs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Morrill still got an impressive performance from Brooklyn Brown, who scored 23 points along with five steals. The game was Brown's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklin Hess, who scored five points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Gabby Twarling was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists for Hay Springs. That makes it four consecutive games in which Twarling has scored at least 25% of Hay Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Julia Russell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Morrill's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Hay Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Morrill will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Banner County at 12:00 p.m. on December 19th. Banner County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Morrill is ranked 67th). Hay Springs won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Crawford at 3:30 p.m. on December 19th. Crawford will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
