Football Game Preview: Edmund Burke Academy Spartans vs. Flint River Academy Wildcats

After each having a week off, the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans and the Flint River Academy Wildcats will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Edmund Burke Academy's defense has only allowed 9.1 points per game this season, so Flint River Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Edmund Burke Academy is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Briarwood Academy last Friday. The Spartans fell 28-21 to the Buccaneers.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Noah Hickman, who rushed for 46 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 143 yards and one TD. Cohen Felix was another key player, picking up 101 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, Flint River Academy entered their tilt with Terrell County last Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Greenwave with a sharp 37-14 win.

Edmund Burke Academy better keep an eye on Ethan Newman. He was instrumental in Flint River Academy's win, rushing for 100 yards and six touchdowns. Another back making a difference was Nathan Mizzell, who gained 133 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Flint River Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Edmund Burke Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Flint River Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
