Softball Recap: Saint Joseph Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Saint Joseph, who bounced back after a loss on the road on April 15th. They blew past the Bellflower Buccaneers 10-0 on Wednesday. Considering the Jesters have won ten matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Eris Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Allison Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Breanna Ochoa, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Saint Joseph always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellflower only posted an OBP of .118.

Saint Joseph pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bellflower, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Coming up, Saint Joseph will face off against Valley Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Jesters' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Defenders have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Bellflower, they have already played their next contest, a 23-7 win against Firebaugh on the 1st.
