League recap: Costa Mesa stuns Calvary Chapel in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Costa Mesa, who defeated 459th ranked Calvary Chapel, 58-41.

The Mustangs moved up to 653 from 729 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Orange Coast. Costa Mesa climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Eagles 58-41.

Danny Mattero threw for 319 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 18-34 with 3 interceptions.

Luke Thompson was the best receiver in the league this week as Calvary Chapel fell to Wally Grant's team. Thompson tallied 9 receptions for 114 yards. Joey Cox helped Calvary Chapel's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 100 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Chris Cox's team's Mattero and Cox have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Mattero has thrown for 2,559 yards this season, while Cox has 53 catches for 799 yards. Nathan Lancaster from Laguna Beach leads the league in rushing with 2,089 yards.

As it stands, the Mustangs are in second, while the Breakers are in third.

Costa Mesa extended the longest winning streak in Orange Coast this week by beating the Eagles, 58-41. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
