Dirigo and Spruce Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cougars will head out to square off against the Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Dirigo and Lisbon meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Cougars came out on top against the Greyhounds by a score of 13-9. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly four runs.
Leah Turnbull made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits. Turnbull was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Nikole Turnbull was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lana Waite, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Spruce Mountain earned a 13-8 win over Mount Abram on Tuesday. The Phoenix haven't had any issues with the Roadrunners recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Devin Bryant and L Spear did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Spear went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Bryant a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Santika Hodgkin, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Spruce Mountain's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Dirigo, their record now sits at 2-0.
Everything went Dirigo's way against Spruce Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Dirigo made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
