Recap: Atkins Camels vs. Northern Guilford Nighthawks
This season hasn't been kind to the Atkins Camels, who are still winless after their eighth game. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 88-62 walloping at the hands of Northern Guilford on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Atkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while Northern Guilford is ranked 42nd).
Despite the loss, Atkins still got an impressive performance from Laithan Atkins, who scored 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Princeton Scott, who scored 16 points.
Atkins bumped their record down to 0-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Northern Guilford, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atkins will take on Parkland at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northern Guilford, they will head out on the road to face off against Reidsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
