Preview: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Boulder City Eagles

Moapa Valley is 9-1 against Boulder City since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Moapa Valley Pirates will be playing at home against the Boulder City Eagles at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Moapa Valley's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matches.

Two weeks ago, Moapa Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Virgin Valley, taking the game 38-27.

Shandon Matheson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Matheson's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Degan Jones, who picked up 71 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Moapa Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Gary Leavitt and his two sacks.

Meanwhile, Boulder City can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They blew past Mater Academy East Las Vegas 48-0 at home. Boulder City pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Mater Academy East Las Vegas had no chance of recovering from.

Gage Hopkinson and Chase Jappe were among the main playmakers for Boulder City as the former rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries and the latter gained 176 total yards and four touchdowns. Easton Welbourne got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Moapa Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Boulder City, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2.

Everything came up roses for Moapa Valley against Boulder City when the teams last played back in September as the team secured a 42-9 victory. Does Moapa Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boulder City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
