Basketball Game Preview: Marietta Blue Devils vs. James F. Byrnes Rebels

Two dominant guards in Leah DeWitt and Ashlyn Evans are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Marietta Blue Devils will take on the James F. Byrnes Rebels in a tournament on Saturday. Marietta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season.

Two weeks ago, Marietta beat East Paulding 59-48.

DeWitt and Kyann Senior were among the main playmakers for Marietta as the former went 12 for 22 on her way to 26 points and eight rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which DeWitt has scored at least a third of Marietta's points. Janiah Scott was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Marietta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, James F. Byrnes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 51-42 to Morrow. The contest marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Marietta's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for James F. Byrnes, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
