Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Mountain View Academy's Third in Last Four Outings

Mountain View Academy won the last time they faced Mid-Peninsula, and Christopher Mercado did his part to make sure it happened again. The Mountain View Academy Mustangs walked away with a 71-63 victory over the Mid-Peninsula Dragons on Tuesday thanks in part to Mercado, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Another player making a difference was Daniel Malo, who posted 16 points. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Mid-Peninsula's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Latour and Oliver Carpenter. Latour put up 26 points and seven rebounds, while Carpenter earned 26 points along with five boards and three steals. Carpenter has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of James Carpenter, who scored four points and seven rebounds.

Mountain View Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Mid-Peninsula, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-9.

Mountain View Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-54 win against East Palo Alto Academy on the 6th. As for Mid-Peninsula, they have also already played their next game, an 82-54 defeat against Kehillah on the 6th.
