Baseball Recap: Maranatha Christian Academy's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Barstow, Maranatha Christian Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Guadalupe Centers Aztecs with a sharp 20-3 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Lake Padgett and Auden Smail made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Padgett pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Smail pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Padgett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Padgett went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Smail went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Smail is becoming a predictor of Maranatha Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Caleb Cronin was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Owen Smail, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Maranatha Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Maranatha Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Guadalupe Centers, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
