Basketball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Comes Up Short

If Trinity Lutheran was feeling good fresh off their 90-8 takedown of Crothersville on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trinity Lutheran Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 55-54 to the Austin Eagles. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.

Trinity Lutheran's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marley Warren, who posted 17 points. Warren's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bailey Bonde, who went 7 of 15 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Trinity Lutheran has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Austin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Trinity Lutheran will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Harrison at 1:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Austin will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against South Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
