Baseball Game Preview: West Oso Bears vs. Odem Owls

West Oso hasn't had much luck against Odem recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bears will head out to face off against the Owls at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Oso comes in on three and Odem on five.

If West Oso beats Odem with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bears walked away with a 6-3 win over Aransas Pass on Monday.

Jashaud Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julian Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Jaime Guerrero was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Odem narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past George West 8-6.

Payton Simmons made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Simmons was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Eric Swisher was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Odem's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for West Oso, their record is now 11-8.

West Oso couldn't quite finish off Odem in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 5-3. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
