Carterville had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Massac County Patriots an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Caidence Phillips was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
