Basketball Recap: Diamond Hill-Jarvis Takes a Loss

Diamond Hill-Jarvis lost against Southwest on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles took a blow against the Southwest Raiders, falling 90-40. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1033rd, while the Raiders are ranked 325th).

Despite the loss, Diamond Hill-Jarvis had strong showings from Isaiah Espinosa, who posted eight points and five rebounds, and Anthony Elizondo, who earned 15 points along with six assists and four steals. Elizondo's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Diamond Hill-Jarvis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Diamond Hill-Jarvis has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Southwest, they pushed their record up to 22-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Diamond Hill-Jarvis and Southwest will both be playing Western Hills the next time they take the court. Diamond Hill-Jarvis will head out to face Western Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Southwest will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
