Baseball Game Preview: Pacific Grove Breakers vs. St. Francis Sharks

Pacific Grove hasn't had much luck against St. Francis recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Breakers will host the Sharks at 12:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Pacific Grove and Greenfield, and Pacific Grove kept the tradition alive. The Breakers walked away with a 7-4 win over the Bruins on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Breakers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

River Lyon was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Lippert, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Francis, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Salinas 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sharks have posted since April 17th.

Nash Horton made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Francis is 5-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Horton was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Horton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Fantl, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Pacific Grove's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for St. Francis, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Pacific Grove suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to St. Francis in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Breakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
