Preview: Kiefer Trojans vs. Alva Goldbugs
Kiefer has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Alva Goldbugs at TBD on Friday. Kiefer has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 294 points over their last five contests.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Kiefer walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 64-28 victory over the Indians at home. Considering Kiefer has won nine contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kiefer can attribute much of their success to Jentry Pendergraft, who rushed for 87 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Alston Carr, who gained 143 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Alva had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Kingston with a 28-23 win.
It was another big night for Lantz Mathers, who rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Mathers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Kiefer has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Alva, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Kiefer has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Alva struggles in that department as they've been averaging 179.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
