Basketball Recap: Copper Basin's Win Ends Nine-Game Losing Streak at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Copper Basin challenged Whitwell on Monday. The Copper Basin Cougars came out on top against the Whitwell Tigers by a score of 74-65. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 57-34 two weeks ago.

Copper Basin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talon Smith, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 boards. The contest was Smith's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carder Lance, who posted 20 points and four steals.

Copper Basin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Copper Basin's victory ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-16. As for Whitwell, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Copper Basin will venture away from home to challenge Chattanooga Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chattanooga Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season. Whitwell has already played their next matchup, an 81-19 defeat against Signal Mountain on the 4th.
