Baseball Recap: Benicia Extends Winning Streak to Five

Benicia had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the El Cerrito Gauchos. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gauchos, too.

Dominic Louro tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Nash Rubins and Jackson Habegger did most of the damage at the plate: Rubins went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Habegger went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases. That triple marked the first that Rubins hit this season.

Benicia's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for El Cerrito, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Benicia will head out on the road to challenge Acalanes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for El Cerrito, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Salesian College Preparatory at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gauchos are facing the Pride at the right time seeing as the Pride are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
