Basketball Recap: Shadow Mountain Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Shadow Mountain had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it nine. They were beaten by the Estrella Foothills Wolves 79-21. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Wolves are ranked 109th).

Shadow Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tess Newport, who posted two points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks.

As for Estrella Foothills, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. That looming 79-21 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Estrella Foothills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexza Burroughs, who went 7-for-15 on her way to 18 points along with seven assists and six boards. Those seven assists gave Burroughs a new career-high. Tristin Foafoa was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, Shadow Mountain and Ray will shake off the rust and duke it out at 12:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026. As for Estrella Foothills, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 91-19 win against Arcadia on the 16th.
