Volleyball Recap: Sir?Vontaye Wooldridge-Johnson Key Part of Team Effort in Falcons Win

Firestone won the last time they faced St. Edward, and Tala Paing did his part to make sure it happened again. The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Eagles on Thursday with plenty of help from Paing, who had 35 assists and 15 digs. He has been hot, having posted 12 or more assists the last six times he's played.

Firestone got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 30-28, 12-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Firestone's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sir?Vontaye Wooldridge-Johnson led the charge by getting 14 digs and four assists. Those four assists gave Wooldridge-Johnson a new career-high.

When it comes to explaining why St. Edward lost, don't look at Davion Tan-Nguyen. Despite the final result, he had 24 digs and four assists.

Firestone has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for St. Edward, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-6 record.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Firestone is set to challenge their familiar foe Walsh Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th. The timing is sure in the Falcons' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Warriors have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, St. Edward will face off against rival Mt. Vernon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
